KIPP to College
When a student enters a KIPP DC school in the fifth grade, the student, parents, and teachers make a promise to successfully "climb the mountain to college." To achieve this goal, KIPP DC schools continue to support students who complete the eighth grade at KIPP on their journey from KIPP to College.
The KIPP to College alumni program was created to ensure that all KIPP DC alumni are able to overcome any obstacle they face and pursue successful futures. We will not let our students fall into the local statistical abyss in which less than 25% of their peers 'have plans' to go to college. The mission of KIPP to College is to empower each KIPP DC alumnus to continue to use the scholarly habits, knowledge, and qualities of character learned at KIPP, in their current school, and in life to further their communities. Components of the program include:
-
Support counseling for the student and their family;
-
Academic support services and programs;
-
College and financial aid counseling;
-
Extracurricular activities; and
-
Summer internships, job placement, and other leadership and enrichment opportunities.
