FAQ
What are the hours of the school?
In order to fulfill our mission, AIM requires students to spend more time in class. School starts with a mandatory three week summer school program in July 2005 from 9:00am to 1:00 pm. Students return in September, attending school daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Monday through Thursday, with a 3:30 PM early dismissal on Friday. There will be approximately 22 days of mandatory Saturday School, which provides students with a variety of extracurricular and enrichment activities from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
What is the process for enrolling my child?
AIM Academy is enrolling students for the fifth grade on a first come, first serve, basis. Parents must fill out an enrollment form. Then, once we have receive your form, a home visit will be scheduled in which a staff member visits your family to further discuss the school and our expectations with you.
Are the students required to wear uniforms?
Yes. AIM Academy wants to minimize distractions so that learning can take place. AIM Academy wants students to focus on their classes and not on competing to wear designer clothes.
Do students go on field trips?
Yes. Students go on field trips throughout the year. There is also an end of the year field trip where students have the opportunity to take an overnight trip to a major city, visiting landmarks and local colleges.
How are parents involved in the school?
AIM requires parents to check their child's homework, sign a daily homework log, and sign the weekly progress report. Parents are also encouraged to participate in AIM Academy's Parent Organization.
How will AIM Academy prepare students for high school?
Our fifth grade teachers will spend the school year catching students up to grade level by building a solid foundation in the core academic subjects. When students reach the sixth thru eight grades, they are then challenged with upper level classes such as algebra, advanced literature and hands-on science labs.
What is AIM Academy's discipline plan?
We have a paycheck system that rewards students who make good choices with KIPP dollars that they can spend at the school store. Students who make bad choices will be put on “the bench.” The bench is an opportunity for students to improve their behavior, and focus on their academics. Students will be isolated from their peers in the classroom, but will not miss academic classes.
