KEY Academy violinist awarded $1,000 music scholarship

Recently, eight KIPP DC KEY Academy eighth-graders participated and performed in the ‘Violins for Douglass’ competition and workshop sponsored by the Frederick Douglass Memorial and Historical Association at University of District of Columbia. The competition and workshop were open to all student violinists in the DC area and drew a large crowd of talented violinists. Under the direction of KEY Academy Orchestra Director, Dawn Johnson, our students were well prepared, committed, and showed an unprecedented level of professionalism during their performance.

We’re proud to announce that our very own, Mya Brown was awarded the grand prize of $1,000 music scholarship for her excellent performance!

Additionally, we would like to celebrate all of our KIPP DC students who worked exceptionally hard in preparing for this solo competition:

Jaden Smith

Chiyenne Matthews

Armani Carter

Micah St. Louis
