The mission of KIPP DC: AIM Academy is to instill our students with the academic skills and character necessary to succeed in high school, college, and life. We believe that all students can learn and that there are no shortcuts to success in life. We feel a sense of urgency over the future of our students. Therefore, AIM Academy believes in holding students to high expectations and accepts no excuses.

The School

KIPP DC: AIM Acadmy is a public charter school located in Washington, DC that opened its doors in July 2005. The school currently has 320 fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade students. AIM Academy is replicating and building on the success of its partner school, KIPP DC: KEY Academy, also located in Washington, DC. KEY Academy has had remarkable results on its standardized test scores and in placing its alumni in high performing high schools.

Our Vision

AIM will strive to build positive, trusting relationships among students, staff, and parents. We recognize that our mission will be accomplished only if all involved feel valued. AIM seeks to create a strong school culture based on our five values of Teamwork, Enthusiasm, Achievement, Responsibility, and Respect. Our goal is for our students to internalize these values and develop their own personal code. AIM will turn students' minds on to thinking deeply and critically about learning, the world around them, and their place in it.

Enrollment Process

Every year, beginning in the first week of January, we begin to accept applications for our 5th grade for the following school year. Our open enrollment period is from January 1 until March 30. We accept students on a first come, first serve basis during our open enrollment period as long as we do not exceed our enrollment goal of 85 students. If we do not exceed our enrollment goal of 85 students during the open enrollment period, students will be admitted on a first come, first served basis. Once we have reached full enrollment, after April 30, a waitlist will begin and will remain in order of first come, first served. If we do exceed our enrollment goal of 80 students within the open enrollment period all registered students will be entered into a lottery and we will randomly select students for the upcoming school year as deemed prudent by Charter School Law, Act 22. All students' names will be drawn in the lottery to establish a waitlist after we reach full enrollment. The 5th grade lottery will be held on May 1. The order of preference established in Act 22 states that siblings have first priority and regular District residents have second priority. All lottery drawings will be witnessed by a representative staff member and a parent. Official records of lottery drawings will be kept on file in the school office. Any students submitting applications after March 30 will automatically go to the end of the waitlist generated by the lottery. All waitlists are for that school year only and do not rollover for the following year.
