KIPP DC: KEY Academy (Knowledge Empowers You) provides an innovative and academically rigorous college preparatory program to 320 fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade students in Southeast Washington, D.C. The school's mission is to prepare students with the academic, intellectual, and character skills necessary for success in high school, college, and the competitive world beyond.

Teachers and Staff

Teachers are in school Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. and on Fridays until 4:30 p.m., from 8:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. three Saturdays each month, and for one month during the summer. Teachers bridge the gap between school and community by visiting every student's home before the start of the school year and providing students with their cellular phone numbers for homework assistance or in case of an emergency.

Our Location

KIPP DC: KEY Academy is located in a beautiful new building at our brand new campus at 4801 Benning Road, SE Washington, DC 20019.

KIPP DC: KEY Academy is accessible via public transportation. The W4 and U8 buses both stop within one block of the school. In addition, the school is a 10-15 minute walk from the metro station.

• From the Benning Road stop (blue line), exit the Metro on Benning Road, walk towards Central Avenue, continue walking past E. Capitol Street, you will see the Benning Road campus at the intersection of Benning Road and 46th Street.

Driving directions:

FROM UNION STATION (DOWNTOWN WASHINGTON): From the Circle, take Massachusetts Ave to North Capitol Street, make a right onto H Street. Continue on H Street passing 1st through 15th Streets, H Street will turn into Benning Road, follow Benning Road for 3 miles, pass over 295/Kenilworth Ave and E Capitol Street, end at the intersection of 46th Street and Benning Road SE. You will see the new building across from the Payne Cemetary.
