KIPP DC: is part of the nationally acclaimed KIPP network of schools. There are more than thirty schools nationwide, serving students in under-resourced areas throughout the United States. These schools have become the highest performing middle schools in their cities.

KIPP DC has had remarkable results on its standardized test scores. As demonstrated by the graph below, KIPP students have surpassed all DCPS charter and public schools on the Stanford-9 test.

KIPP DC's eighth grade students have earned over $400,000 in scholoarships to top high schools.

Test Scores

KIPP DC is the highest performing public middle school in Washington DC and these percentile rankings reflect this achievement. Below is a comparison of Stanford 9 test scores between KIPP DC 8 th graders and 8 th graders in our students’ neighborhood schools – these are the middle schools our students would attend if they did not attend KIPP DC.

At KIPP DC our students make tremendous gains in academic achievement in just one year. After their first year at KIPP DC our 2004-2005 5 th grades went from scoring in the 31st and 22nd percentile in math and reading, respectively to scoring in the 94th and 62nd percentile in these subjects. This means that by spring of their fifth grade year our students outscored 94% of students nationally on the Stanford 9 math exam.

Our students’ gains do not stop after their first year at KIPP DC. Our first class of alumni entered KIPP DC scoring in the 23rd and 34th percentile in reading and math, respectively. By making steady progress in academic performance the same students scored in the 71st and 94th percentiles at the end of their 8 th grade year. Their academic achievements earned them entrance to high-performing college-preparatory high schools and over $1.5 million in scholarships.
