KEY Academy
Now in its ninth year, KIPP DC: KEY Academy (Knowledge Empowers You) is at full capacity, serving 320 fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth graders in Southeast Washington, DC. Students take an innovative and academically rigorous college preparatory program. The school's mission is to prepare students with the academic, intellectual, and character skills necessary for success in high school, college, and the competitive world beyond.
AIM Academy
Now in its fifth year, KIPP DC: AIM Academy is at full capacity, serving 320 fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth graders in Southeast Washington, DC. The mission of KIPP DC: AIM Academy is to instill our students with the academic skills and character necessary to succeed in high school, college, and the world beyond. AIM Academy believes that all students can learn and that there are no shortcuts to success in life. AIM Academy serves 320 students.
We feel a sense of urgency over the future of our students. Therefore, AIM Academy believes in holding students to high expectations and accepting no excuses.
WILL Academy
Opened in July 2006, KIPP DC: WILL Academy is KIPP D.C.’s newest middle school campus. The school serves 320 fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. KIPP DC: WILL Academy was founded by Jessica Cunningham. Ms. Cunningham taught 6th grade math and 7th grade English at KEY Academy and was a D.C. Teaching Fellow prior to being selected for KIPP school leadership.
LEAP Academy
Opened in July 2007, KIPP DC: LEAP Academy is KIPP DC's first early childhood school. LEAP Academy currently serves 300 pre-kindergarten (age 3) through kindergarten students. Founding principal, Laura Bowen, is committed to offering a developmentally appropriate college preparatory education for Washington D.C.'s youngest students.
Discover Academy
KIPP DC: Discover Academy, KIPP DC's second early childhood school, opened in July 2009 at the Douglass Campus in Ward 8. The school serves pre-kindergarten students (age 4) and will expand, ultimately serving students in pre-kindergarten (age 3) through kindergarten. Philonda Johnson is KIPP DC: Discover Academy's founding principal. Prior to being selected for KIPP leadership, Ms. Johnson was a founding teacher at KIPP DC: LEAP Academy.
Promise Academy
KIPP DC: Promise Academy, KIPP DC's first elementary school, opened in July 2009 at the Benning Road Campus in Ward 7. This year the school is serving first grade students and will expand, ultimately serving students in grades 1 - 4.
KIPP DC: College Preparatory
KIPP DC: College Preparatory, KIPP DC's first high school, opened in July 2009 at the Douglass Campus in Ward 8. The school currently serves 9th grade students and will expand, ultimately serving students in grades 9 - 12. Cheryl Borden is KIPP DC: College Preparatory's founding principal.
Grow Academy
KIPP DC: Grow Academy, KIPP DC's third early childhood school, will open in July 2010 in Northwest DC. The school will serve pre-kindergarten students (age 4) and will expand, ultimately serving students in pre-kindergarten (age 3) through kindergarten. Stacie Kossoy is KIPP DC: Grow Academy's founding principal. Prior to being selected for KIPP leadership, Ms. Kossoy was a founding teacher at KIPP DC: LEAP Academy.
