Dear KIPP DC Families,
We hope the start of summer finds your family healthy and safe. While we are still working through various options for students to return to school virtually and with limited in-person learning, we are committed to resuming instruction as scheduled in August. We wanted to share with you school calendars for the upcoming year for PreK3-8th grade and high school students.
All students’ families will have a one-on-one parent-teacher meeting in August to pick up materials (tech, books, school supplies, etc.) to support learning, review school health and safety procedures, and get their questions about what learning will look like answered. Your child’s teacher will reach out in late July or early August to schedule this meeting.
The schedule for the start of the school year is as follows:
PreK3-8TH Grade Students:
- Thursday, August 6 – Friday, August 14: Back-to-School Parent-Teacher Meetings for All Students
- Monday, August 17: First Official Day of School for PreK3-8 Students
High School Students:
- Monday, August 10 – Friday, August 14: Back-to-School Parent-Teacher Meetings for All Students
- Monday, August 17-Tuesday August 19 & Thursday, August 20-Friday, August 21: Freshman Orientation for Grade 9 Students
- Wednesday, August 18: Senior Orientation for Grade 12 Students
- Monday, August 24: First Official Day of School for Grades 10-12 Students
We understand student safety is top of mind for our families as we plan for the upcoming school year. Resuming normal school operations is a priority for us, but we must do so in a way that prioritizes safety, responsibility, and equity, and also meets the academic and social needs of each of our students. At this time, we are taking the parent input collected in late May and guidance from public health officials to understand how many students and how often they’ll be permitted to be in our school buildings. We hope to share more in early July.
As previously shared, we are also committed to providing a fully-virtual school experience for all families that do not feel comfortable with their children returning to school, in-person. Families will be able to opt into this virtual program in early July. Families will be able to evaluate and opt back into in-person learning mid-fall should they choose.
Throughout the summer, we will continue to provide our meal program at the Webb, Douglass, and Benning Campuses. Visit our meal program site for full details.
In the coming weeks, we will continue to work with health professionals and facility engineers on our rigorous new cleaning and safety plans we are developing. We look forward to sharing more summer updates and information on the upcoming school year in early July. Have a wonderful summer.
