We’re excited to share important dates and changes for the 2023-24 school year!
PreK3-8th Grade Student Calendar
High School Student Calendar
You’ll notice a few important changes to the calendar this year –
- Extended Summer Break: We were able to adjust the calendar to extend summer break by a week, while also maintaining KIPP DC’s extended breaks throughout the school year. This was something that both families and staff strongly requested.
- Slightly Shorter Day, No Early Dismissal Wednesday: We got feedback that the Wednesday dismissal time was confusing and inconsistent, and the slightly shorter day should provide more time for afterschool enrichment, academic, and athletic experiences. The updated student hours are listed in the chart below.
- New Opt-In Extended Day: To provide additional academic acceleration and respond to some families’ interest in an extended school day, we’re planning to develop an optional, high-impact tutoring program. This afterschool program will run 3 days per week for approximately 10 weeks in the fall and 10 weeks in the spring. More information on this program will be coming soon!
- Better Alignment with DCPS: To improve student attendance and provide more consistency for families, we’ve tried to align Family-Teacher Conferences and Teacher Development Days with DC Public Schools’ calendar.
The new school hours for students in 2023-24 are 8:00 am – 3:30 pm five days/week (doors open for arrival at 7:45 am)*
*We are currently working to finalize the master schedule for high schools and may update student hours for KIPP DC College Preparatory and Legacy College Preparatory in the coming weeks.
Thank you again for your input and for choosing to send your student to KIPP DC! We’ll be in touch later in the month with important information on how to re-enroll your student for the 2023-24 school year.
Best,
KIPP DC Public Schools
