The Annual Peace March
Every third Monday of January, we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, who dedicated his life to fighting for equality and human rights for the Black community. His legacy continues to impact civil rights movements in the present day.
The weather was bright on January 16, and more than 300 KIPP DC students, families, staff, and close partners proudly marched in the annual MLK Parade in Anacostia! The day was filled with music, dance, and tons of cheers as we celebrated the life of Dr. King together. The parade began at the R.I.S.E. Demonstration Center in Ward 8 at 11:00 am and ended on Good Hope Road and MLK Ave SE.
We thank Dr. Christina Grant, the DC State Superintendent of Education, and others from the OSSE office for joining us during the parade. We also want to give a big shout-out to our committed students, family members, and KIPP DC staff for showing up to celebrate the legacy of Dr. King. Along with a special thank you to Honor Academy’s cheerleaders and Inspire Academy’s dance team for an excellent performance. Thank you for showing your support!
