As we wrap up the school year, we wanted to share important updates about what to expect in August when the 2021-22 school year starts. We’ll be in touch regularly throughout the summer with more updates!

Things you need to know:
- Students will learn in person, 5 days a week.
- All KIPP DC decisions will be grounded in science, and current DC Health Guidance.
- School will be joyful and safe; health protocols, including COVID testing, will be in place.
- All students must have their childhood immunizations by the first day of school.
- The CDC recommends the COVID vaccine for children age 12+, learn more to make a decision for your children.
Students will learn in person, 5 days a week
Mayor Bowser has shared that all students in DC will return to in-person learning in August. KIPP DC will educate students 5 days a week, in person at their school.
- As a reminder, here is our 2021-22 school calendars with the first days of school.
- We’ll share what our health and safety protocols will look like throughout the summer, as we continue to closely monitor recommendations from the Department of Health.
- For students medically needing to attend virtual school, the application process will open the first week in June.
- $6 million has been invested in our schools to improve ventilation and air flow. PPE will be available for all students and staff.

Next year may look very different, but the safety of our students, staff, and families will guide every decision we make.
- We will always communicate when policies and procedures change.
- Our Parent Advisory Board is actively working with our leadership team to shape what school will look like next year.
- Science will guide all we do and we will not change how we operate until DC Health has deemed it safe.

In-person learning and the peer interactions students have are invaluable, health protocols will still be in place to ensure learning is safe.
- We are very excited for our students to return! Our school day may look different to ensure the safety of everyone.
- COVID testing of a portion of staff and students will ensure people who seem healthy are not impacted by COVID.

All students must have their childhood immunizations by the first day of school
DC guidelines require all students to have their childhood immunizations to attend school.

The CDC recommends the COVID vaccine for children age 12+, learn more to make a decision for your children.
The CDC has deemed it safe for children ages 12+ to receive the COVID vaccine. We want to provide families with as much information as possible so they can make the best choice for their children.
- On June 16 we will host a community town hall with medical experts to answer questions about the vaccine.
