With February winding down and playoff basketball in full swing, let’s take a look back at the month which included the first ever hardwood matchup between KIPP DC College Preparatory and Somerset College Preparatory!
As fans packed the gymnasium inside KIPP DC College Preparatory, they were treated to an exciting back and forth contest that saw the home team come out on top 66-56. The Panthers had four players score in double-digits, led by junior guard Saveon Jackson who paced the Panther offense with 17 points.
Earlier in the day, the Somerset College Preparatory girls basketball team notched a win against KIPP DC College Preparatory, as they pulled out a tightly-contested 38-34 victory.
Seeing both of our high schools compete against each other for the first time was exciting, but it was seeing the unique bonds and sportsmanship on display before, during and after the games that truly made the night special.
With the high school basketball playoffs in full swing, boys and girls teams from both of our high schools have championship aspirations. The KIPP DC College Preparatory boys team riding the momentum of a state championship win last year and a strong regular season finish. The girls head into the tournament as talented as any in the conference. The teams from Somerset College Preparatory also look to make a big splash in this year’s postseason. All teams won their first round matchups.
