2022 Student Safety Forum Recap

We remain committed to amplifying the voices of our students and families.

On Saturday, December 3, our community engagement team hosted a Student Safety Forum at KIPP DC College Preparatory for middle and high school students, their families, and city representatives. We opened our doors to hear from students and families about the challenges young adults face staying safe and living in DC.

Despite the rain, we were excited to welcome more than 60 families. Students and families discussed their significant concerns in the program’s first half. It was empowering to hear the solutions behind each of the following topics:

Arrival & Dismissal Procedures I Safe Passage I Social Media I Available Resources I Staff To Student Interaction

Following the breakout sessions, a representative from each group shared the concerns and solutions with members of the KIPP DC leadership team and close partners. After each representative finished their thoughts, the floor opened for further discussion. The session ended with a list of the next steps for everyone in the community!

We want to express gratitude to our partners from the DC District Transportation Department and the Deputy Mayor for Education’s Office for helping us address the various issues faced by our students. A big shout out to Councilmembers Trayon White and Kenyan McDuffie for supporting KIPP DC by sending representatives to listen to our community. Thank you for showing your support – this work includes all of us!

Our commitment to a safer community doesn’t end here. Please continue to stay connected with upcoming events from the KIPP DC community engagement team.
