Celebrating KIPP DC College Prep’s Class of 2017

The Class of 2017 earned over $3 million in college scholarships and 100% of them were accepted to college!

We were thrilled to celebrate KIPP DC College Preparatory’s Class of 2017 on Friday, June 9th at the Cramton Auditorium at Howard University. The Commencement Ceremony began with welcoming remarks by The Honorable Mayor Muriel Bowser, who both congratulated the Class of 2017 for their accomplishments and urged them to continue giving back to their communities, which would always allow them to be productive citizens of Washington D.C.

Following Mayor Bowser’s remarks, this year’s salutatorian Ms. Brittany Williams and valedictorian Ms. Kenya Johnson gave riveting reflections on the Class of 2017’s journey to graduation. Ms. Williams and Ms. Johnson encouraged their classmates to stay politically active and engaged in the political process after leaving the halls of KCP.

The Honorable Karl Racine, Attorney General of the District of Columbia, gave the 2017 Commencement Address. In his remarks, he encouraged students to “commit to being excellent” and to never quit in all their post-high-school endeavors.

To close the ceremony, KCP Principal Jessica Cunningham gave one of her last graduation remarks as principal of KIPP DC College Prep. In a passionate speech, Ms. Cunningham, among many other lessons, reminded the Class of 2017 of their greatness and urged them to never doubt their abilities or their seat at the table.

Congratulations to all of the Award winners and the entire KIPP DC College Prep’s Class of 2017!
