Wednesday afternoons come alive on the fifth floor of KIPP DC College Prep as 20 high school girls gather for Bold Girls Society, a transformative Girls Inc. partnership program. This empowering initiative serves as a catalyst, fostering leadership and creating a vibrant community of strong, smart, and bold young women.
Passionately guiding the Bold Girls Society is Ms. Brandy Williams, one of the program’s advisors and History Teacher. She first got involved in mentoring while attending Howard University. “I witnessed the impact the Girls Inc. experience had on girls in a pro-girl environment and mentorship firsthand! After becoming a High School Teacher at KIPP DC, I was determined to bring the program to the high school girls I encountered everyday,” said Ms. Williams.
When asked what she loves most about this program, Ms. Williams said, “This uplifts and supports the new generation of powerful girls! Through mentorship, an environment that encourages girls to be their authentic selves, and proven programs that address the unique challenges our girls face, our strong, smart and bold girls will succeed!”
“Bold Girls Society equipped girls to become leaders who will not only impact their community but change the world!” shared Ms. Williams. Her pride in her students shines as she continued, “Check out Joy Parker! The first girl selected to join the prestigious Girls Inc. National Teen Advocacy Council (TAC). Joy, a junior at KIPP College Prep and a member of our Bold Girls Society, was selected as a member of the 8th Cohort of the National Teen Advocacy Council!”
At the heart of Bold Girls Society lie empowering, motivating, and interactive activities. These endeavors not only develop and promote the strengths of the girls but also inspire them to embrace their individuality and confront challenges with resilience.
Past engagements the program has ventured into include a White House Tour, MLK Library Gift Wrapping Service Project, Community Service at DC Food Bank, representation at the Inaugural Girls Inc. Champion for Girls Luncheon, and participation in the Cox Enterprises Lobbyists Event.
As Women’s History Month unfolds, a celebration of Bold Girls Society is in order. From cultivating a pro-girl environment to offering mentorship and engaging experiences, this program is shaping a generation of strong, smart, and bold leaders. Through the dedicated guidance of advisors like Ms. Brandy Williams and Jordan Jones-Cordero, along with their remarkable students, we witness the impact of empowerment and the boundless potential of Bold Girls Society participants.
