KIPP DC Families,
In recent weeks, DC Health has made adjustments to their COVID quarantine protocols. As with each new round of public health guidance, KIPP DC’s COVID Response Team has analyzed and reviewed how to implement their recommendations here at KIPP DC. As with previous iterations, we take a conservative approach and implement additional COVID mitigation measures above and beyond what DC Health is recommending.
With their recent updates, we’re making some key changes to ensure that students can still participate in as much in-person learning as safely as possible.
Update 1: Test-To-Return for COVID Positive Individuals
Starting Monday, February 14 and following DC Health’s guidelines, KIPP DC will allow students with mild or no symptoms of COVID to return to school after submitting a negative rapid antigen test on day five of their quarantine.
Students who test positive on day five will be required to follow a full ten-day quarantine. Students not wishing to test on day five will be required to complete a full ten-day quarantine. Students can receive rapid tests from a DC COVID Center, DC Public Library location, or their school’s office manager. The COVID team will prompt students and staff when to submit proof of the negative rapid test to the covid@kippdc.org inbox.
Update 2: Test-To-Return for Close Contacts
Following DC’s Health guidance, KIPP DC will also adjust its close contact quarantine protocols for individuals without symptoms.
Students who are close contacts may now return to in-person learning after a seven-day quarantine if they test negative on day five of their quarantine. Students can receive rapid antigen tests from a DC COVID Center, DC Public Library location, or their school’s office manager. The COVID team will prompt students and staff when to submit proof of the negative rapid test to the covid@kippdc.org inbox.
As before, a fully-vaccinated student without symptoms does not need to quarantine if they have had close contact with a COVID-positive individual.
If you wish to not have your child take a COVID test on day five, they will have a ten-day quarantine with virtual learning and not return to in-person learning until day eleven.
KIPP DC is committed to continuously improving the school’s COVID mitigation efforts through a conservative approach
Thank you for your continued support.
Thank you,
KIPP DC COVID Response Team
