Learn More About the KIPP DC Honors Program

The KIPP DC Honors Program provides 9th graders with an academically rigorous cohort experience, offering the high-level academic challenge and opportunities often found in district-wide selective schools. This program prepares students for Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment, and admission to a four-year college or university.

Beyond academics, the Honors Program equips students with the skills to thrive as leaders, professionals, artists, musicians, athletes, and global competitors, setting them up for success in college and beyond.

Application Requirements

KIPP DC Student Application Requirements:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 
  • 7th Grade DC CAPE ELA or Math 3+ score
  • Personal statement expressing interest in being in the Honors Program

Non-KIPP DC Student Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 
  • 7th Grade DC CAPE ELA or Math 3+ score
  • Personal statement expressing interest in being in the Honors cohort
  • Complete Academic Record Upload Form (Student/Family or School)
    • Submit middle school transcript. If that is unavailable, submit final 7th grade report card. 
    • Submit most recent 8th grade report card.
    • Submit 7th grade ELA DC CAPE scores (or other state scores if not DC)
    • Submit 7th grade Math DC CAPE scores (or other state scores if not DC)

Scholar Benefits

  • Access to advanced honors courses in 9th grade, offering a weighted GPA
  • Preparation for AP classes in 10th–12th grades (e.g., AP Computer Science, AP English, AP Chemistry) Regular mentoring and academic guidance

  • SAT test prep with a free practice test in 9th grade
