KIPP DC College Prep (KCP) is proud to share senior, Jena Thompson, has been selected as a 2017 Posse scholar and will receive a full-ride to the University of Rochester.
Through a rigorous selection process, The Posse Foundation identifies public high school students with extraordinary academic and leadership potential who may be overlooked by traditional college selection processes. Posse extends to these students the opportunity to pursue personal and academic excellence by placing them in supportive, multicultural teams—’posses’—of 10 students.
Throughout her time at KCP, Jena has become a well-rounded scholar with an impressive resume. She is the Treasurer of Student Government Association, a valuable member of the women’s varsity basketball team, choir, and National Honor Society, as well as Horton’s Kids, a prominent community organization. She has also been active in pursuits outside of school including teaching herself Korean and working part-time throughout the school year. Revered by her peers and teachers for being an original thinker, Jena’s former US History teacher, Lauren Delaloye, sums her up well: “Jena is no average teenager. Industrious and reliable, steadfast and inventive, she will be a tremendous asset to any college community.
With the support of the Posse Foundation and the KIPP Through College and Career team we’re excited to see what great things are ahead for Jena! Congratulations!
