High School Transition

Every student who graduates from a KIPP DC middle school will receive a KIPP Forward advisor and specialized support for the next 10 years. Support includes college selections, financial aid assistance, strategic goal setting, and pre-college workshops for students and their families.

The High School Decision Process

During KIPPsters’ 8th-grade year, the KIPP Forward team will work with families to help determine which high school is the best fit for their child. All students across the District of Columbia must apply through the My School DC lottery, if they seek to attend a public charter high school or selective DC public school. 8th graders at KIPP DC receive lottery preference at KIPP DC College Preparatory and KIPP DC Legacy College Preparatory.

KIPP DC High Schools

A majority of KIPP DC 8th graders choose to attend a KIPP DC high school. KIPP DC College Preparatory (KCP) is a welcoming, joyful, and comprehensive high school in Ward 5 with a full suite of AP courses, arts programming, and athletics. KIPP DC Legacy College Preparatory  (Ward 8) is our newest school with a developing curriculum around digital media arts and other areas for the upcoming school year. Both high schools prepare students with the skills and confidence to pursue the paths they choose – college, career, and beyond- to lead fulfilling lives and create a more just world.

Attending a Non-KIPP High School

Students who graduate from 8th grade at a KIPP DC middle school but choose another high school in the DC area to continue their education at will still receive support from the KIPP Forward team. KIPP Forward commits to helping all KIPP DC alumni succeed on their journeys through college, careers, and fulfilling lives.
