Happy Fall! September and October, much like the former half of the year, has been a learning experience for the entire KIPP DC community. It was full of academic highlights and around the community. Perhaps the most exciting news, last month was KIPP DC Lead Academy being the fourth KIPP DC school to be named a 2020 National Blue Ribbon school.
Also, members of our team and family are coming up with more creative and safe ways to maximize learning and other opportunities for academic growth during remote learning. We are looking forward to an exciting Fall!

KIPP DC Lead Academy Named 2020 National Blue Ribbon School
We’re proud to celebrate KIPP DC Lead Academy on being named a 2020 National Blue-Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education! Lead Academy is KIPP DC’s fourth recipient of this national honor following KEY Academy in 2007, Promise Academy in 2018, and Heights Academy in 2019. This year, KIPP DC Lead Academy is one of only three DC public school to receive this distinction.
This is a tremendous achievement for students, families, staff, and the Ward 6 community. Read more.
Remote Learning + Wednesday Workshop
September was our first full month of remote learning for school year 2020-21 and we are excited about all of the work that our students, teachers, staff, and families have done to support distance learning and ensure that our students are receiving the best education under the current circumstances.
Also, this month we launched a hybrid program designed to provide in-person and safe supplemental academic support for students who have been learning remotely since mid-March. About 255 families have opted into this weekly one-day-a-week program. Learn more.
KIPP Votes
Everyone at KIPP DC is gearing up for one of the most consequential elections in generations. We want to support our staff and families by providing them with the time they need to vote, thus KIPP DC will close in observance of Election Day on Tuesday, November 3. As we move towards November, it’s more important than ever to constantly remind our students, teachers, families and communities that their voice matter.
I challenge you all to commit to voting yourselves. Encourage someone—a neighbor, a friend, a relative—to do the same. Please be sure to also visit the following links for information on polling places around the DMV area and instructions on how to cast an absentee ballot:
