February is Black History Month. Black History Month is an opportunity to commemorate the African diaspora, going beyond stories of racism and slavery to spotlight Black achievement throughout the world’s history. This year is especially important as it follows a very tumultuous year of protest and calls for racial equity and justice.
Each year at KIPP DC, our students, staff, and community use this month to reflect on the Black experience throughout history as we work every day to ensure that we are building a better tomorrow for our posterity. Please continue reading below for updates on what KIPP DC has been up to inside our classrooms and in the community during February.

KIPP DC Celebrates Black History Month
Our students and community came up with creative ways to celebrate Black History Month virtually this year. Through showcases, seminars, projects, and more, our students showcased their talent and excellence while celebrating Black Americans’ achievements and contributions in shaping our country. Be sure to visit our Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to see how our schools celebrated this year!
March & April In-Person Learning
As we look ahead to our next phase of learning for this school year, which begins in March, we are excited to gradually welcome students back to our classrooms by offering optional in-person programming. We are committed to putting the health and safety of our students, staff, and families first inside all of our school buildings as we gradually return to in-person learning. Learn more about our updated Healthy Operations protocols and the steps we are taking to produce the best learning environments possible for students inside our school buildings.
