On Saturday, May 19th KIPP DC hosted the first annual G.E.M.S. Summit!
In partnership with G.I.R.L. Inc and the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc the Girls Embracing Their Magic & Strength Summit (G.E.M.S Summit) welcomed young girls and women from across Washington, D.C. for a day of empowerment and self-care! The day consisted of a series of sessions that highlighted all girls and women’s need to continue embracing their magic and strength!
- Wear your Crown: You are a Queen! – This workshop addressed key topics including self-love, empathy, and beauty representation in the media demonstrated through craft activities and spoken word. Girls crafted, and shared tools e tools necessary to become the Queens they were born to be!
- Wellness Workshop – Led by certified Zumba Instructor, Khalilah Branch. This session provided tips for a healthy lifestyle that pairs fitness and mental wellness exercises. The workshop emphasized key characteristics that build happy and healthy leaders such as respect, confidence, creativity, and coordination.
- What’s Next: Life After High School – This panel of ambitious and successful young women, each with a different background and career path, reinforced the idea that the possibilities are endless! Panelists included a military officer, physical therapist, entrepreneur and corporate professional, hair stylist, and current college student.
